No-Oil Basic Hummus

Make homemade hummus in 15 minutes with 4 basic ingredients! This easy recipe is super creamy and definitely tastier than any store-bought version. Plus it’s versatile so you can make many variations.

Ingredients

1 - 15 ounce can chickpeas drained, with the liquid reserved - this liquid is referred to as aquafaba in many recipes

1 garlic clove

1/4 cup tahini

2 tablespoons lemon juice - about 1/2 lemon

Instructions

  1. Add the chickpeas to the bowl of a food processor or blender along with 1/4 cup of the drained chickpea liquid (aquafaba) and all other ingredients.

  2. Blend until completely smooth, about 1 minute. If things aren’t moving around add very well add 1 tablespoon of chickpea liquid and blend again, adding an additional tablespoon or 2 as needed to reach desired consistency.

  3. Serve with veggies or Crackers, in a wrap, or as a sandwich spread.

Stir-in Variations

  • Add roasted red pepper.

  • Add spices such as cumin or smoked paprika.

  • Chopped olives or capers make a savory addition.

  • Use roasted garlic instead of fresh garlic.
