How to Throw a Plant-Based Dinner Party in 5 Easy Steps
Finding substantial plant-based recipes for a dinner party shouldn’t be as much of a challenge as hiking the Appalachian Trail. When we do find a holy grail plant-based dinner—one that’s easy, and delicious, and satisfying—it tends to get repeated (and repeated, and repeated). Like this European theme dinner that I have prepared more times than I care to admit. And each time, it’s a hit!
Here are my 5 steps for hosting the perfect plant-based dinner party.
Choose your meal’s main course. Keep it simple such as Zucchini Lasagna with Plant-Based Ricotta. This is the perfect dish because you can make it ahead. If you’re one who loves a symphony of mushrooms, onions, garlic, carrots, artichoke hearts, and red wine you’ll want to take a little extra time and prepare this Mushroom Bourguinon served over Celeriac and Potato Puree.
Choose your sides and desserts. Don’t overthink this! Simplicity is the new elegant so why not toss mixed greens and red onion with this lovely Salad Dressing 1-1-1. Toss in a few blueberries and dinner is served. Simple perfection! For dessert, I’d suggest Non-Dairy Chocolate Chia Seed Pudding with a few raspberries tossed on top.
If you want to serve an appetizer. Personally, I love the appeal of a small charcuterie board that includes a few whole grain crackers, grapes and this Creamy Dairy-Free Cheezy Spread.
Decorate your table. Save space at the table for a simple vase or jar of flowers. I like to save random jars and place a hosta leaf and flower in them. Nothing fancy. Simple elegance! Or use a ready-made arrangement from your favorite local flower shop. Oh, and don’t forget a small candle.
Make drinks for the day.
Your friends may not be plant-based so this is your opportunity to show them that eating plant-based doesn’t have to be “rabbit food” or weird bean mush. It can be as simple as traditional dishes made over without meat, dairy, and oil, yet as delicious as the ones they’re used to. When you love something, chances are your friends will too!
