Homemade Oat Flour

Are you purchasing costly oat flour when you already have old-fashioned rolled oats at home? Making homemade oat flour couldn't be easier! All you need is old-fashioned (whole) rolled oats (not steel-cut or quick oats) and a food processor or high-speed blender.

First, let’s take a look at how oat flour is different from oatmeal. Oatmeal and oat flour are identical in nutritional makeup and flavor because they're made from the same initial ingredient: whole oat groats. The main difference between meal and flour, though, is how finely the original ingredient has been ground.

Ingredients

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats - or any amount that will fit your food processor or high-speed blender

Instructions

  1. Place the oats in a high-speed blender or food processor and blend until they form a fine flour, stopping occasionally to stir down the side., This will take anywhere from 20 seconds to 1 minute. That's it!

NOTE: Keep in mind that one cup of old-fashioned oats yields about one cup of flour.
